Cog Sci 197 - Academic Internship Credit

Declared Cog Sci majors who are pursuing an internship that relates to their studies in the Cognitive Science Program can earn academic credit.  To earn credit, students are required to complete the application below and submit it before the deadline.  Cog Sci 197 is a variable unit class, units are based on the number of hours necessary to complete the work assigned.

Three hours per week of internship work = one unit of credit. Students cannot earn more than a total of 3 units of credit.

To enroll in Cog Sci 197, you must meet ALL the follow requirements:

  • Declared in the Cog Sci major
  • Have completed at least 60 units
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA overall and in upper division major courses
  • Have an internship that relates to the Cog Sci major. Internships that have no connection to cognitive science will not be approved.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS interested in obtaining their CPT can use Cog Sci 197 to earn the required credit needed.  Please make an appointment with Catherine Byrne, the CogSci declared major advisor to discuss your requirements.

To apply for Cog Sci 197, please click on the link below to access the application. Complete the form and have it signed by a faculty member, then upload it to google drive and paste the link to the document in the application form. Submit your completed application before the deadline.  The deadline for submitting the paperwork for Cog Sci 197 in Fall and Spring is the end of the third week of classes.  For summer, the deadline is the end of the first week of session C.

Applications are subject to approval by the Cog Sci Advisors. Applications can take up to two-four weeks to review. All units are P/NP.  This course cannot be used to fulfill any major requirement.

 

Cognitive Science 199 - Independent Study in Research

Cog Sci 199 is an independent study course for student engaged in research with a Cognitive Science affiliated faculty member.   Cog Sci 199 is a variable unit class; units are based on the number of hours necessary to complete the work assigned. Note: Calculate units based on the formula of 1 unit per 3 hours of work per week.

To enroll in Cog Sci 199, you must meet ALL the follow requirements:

  • Your sponsor must be a Cog Sci affiliated faculty member
  • Have completed at least 60 units
  • Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0

NOTE: Cog Sci 199 is not appropriate for international students in the Cog Sci major who need units to qualify for their CPT.  All units are P/NP.  This course cannot be used to fulfill an elective requirement for the major.  Deadline for submitting the Cog Sci paperwork for Fall and Spring is the end of the third week of classes.  For summer, the deadline is the end of the first week of session C.
