We have received approval to reduce the required number of upper division units for the Cognitive Science major from 30 to 26. Therefore, students who opt to fulfill our Philosophy requirement with a lower division option, can do so (in most cases) without needing a fourth elective. This change applies to all current and future declared Cognitive Science majors.

Deciding to apply to graduate school is a big decision. The admission timeline for most PhD programs in the United States begins one year before enrollment. Meaning, if you want to go straight to grad school from undergrad, you’ll have to apply during your senior year. While a seamless transition may be appealing, it’s important to consider the strength of your application with respect to your target programs and schools.

Have you noticed? Millennials appear to be everywhere. Not that this group -- the sizable cohort born between 1981 and 1997, now estimated at 75.4 million Americans -- was ever invisible. What’s changed is their status.

As a Cal student, I countdown the days until the next spring or winter break. After weeks of rigorous school work, sometimes career exploration gets pushed off to the side; however, apart from sleeping in, Netflix binge watching or catching up on school work, I have learned to take advantage of many opportunities during breaks. The other day I was talking to my GSI about their experience so far in their PhD program. She told me that she had personally taken some time off after her undergrad and worked in a field related to her major. Others  I’ve talked to told me that they went to grad school right after they finished their bachelors.

This led me to think:

Do I have to go to graduate school right after my undergrad?

What program can lead me to the job I want?
