We have recently learned that L&S has changed their practice regarding concurrent enrollment at both a community college and at UCB during the same Fall or Spring semester.

The College will, from now on, ONLY approve a request to enroll at both a CC and UCB at the same time IF:

Student formally requests approval before enrolling in CC course

Student can demonstrate that extraordinary circumstances prevent the student from taking said course at UCB

Student is NOT in their first or final term

Please note that CogSci 131: Computational Models of Cognition will be available Summer 19 and Fall 19. It will NOT be offered in Spring 2020. If you are graduating Spring 2020 and you need Cog Sci 131, you MUST take the course in Summer 19 or Fall 19. Contact peer or staff advising with questions.

The CogSci faculty have decided not to enforce a 75 unit cap on declarations for Fall 18 Frosh as anticipated. We will continue to accept any student who meets the GPA and prerequisite requirements and can feasibly complete the major, regardless of unit total.

We have received approval to reduce the required number of upper division units for the Cognitive Science major from 30 to 26. Therefore, students who opt to fulfill our Philosophy requirement with a lower division option, can do so (in most cases) without needing a fourth elective. This change applies to all current and future declared Cognitive Science majors.

Hooray! Two new Psychology hires have recently joined the faculty, and have permanent teaching commitments to teach Cognitive Science: Celeste Kidd and Steve Piantidosi.

After 10 years as program director, Terry Regier gets a long-deserved sabbatical for the 18-19 academic year. David Whitney will be serving as Interim Director in his stead. Welcome Professor Whitney!
